RTD in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Rapid tRNA decay

Proteins:
5'-3' exoribonuclease
5'-3' exoribonuclease 2

If m7G46 and m5C49 are not added to tRNAVal(AAC) the hypomodified mature tRNA is at least partially functional, but is degraded by the RTD pathway, by Xrn1 in the cytoplasm, or by Rat1 in the nucleus, possibly after nuclear import. [PMID: 16387656, 18443146, for review, see 20810645]. The elevated presence of pAp in met22 mutants inhibits the RTD pathway by inhibiting both Xrn1 and Rat1. [PMID: 18443146, 9384595, 8910555].
