H/ACA ribonucleoprotein complex subunit 1

 
Known also as: snoRNP protein GAR1

FUNCTION:

Required for ribosome biogenesis. Part of a complex which catalyzes pseudouridylation of rRNA. This involves the isomerization of uridine such that the ribose is subsequently attached to C5, instead of the normal N1. Pseudouridine ("psi") residues may serve to stabilize the conformation of rRNAs. Essential for growth.  

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE:

Component of the small nucleolar ribonucleoprotein particles containing H/ACA-type snoRNAs (H/ACA snoRNPs). The protein component of the H/ACA snoRNP contains CBF5, GAR1, NHP2 and NOP10. The complex contains a stable core composed of CBF5 and NOP10, to which GAR1 and NHP2 subsequently bind. Interacts with snoRNAs.
